LISTENING FOR GOD'S VOICE

 

 I was praying the other night

That I would hear God's voice.

A heavy feeling of tiredness fell over me

To stay awake one more second was no choice.

 

 I dreamed I was standing in God's presence

And He was speaking directly to me.

He said "I heard your prayers"

"Now there is something I need for you to see."

 

 A robin landed on God's finger

Just like the one I had seen earlier that day.

"Didn't his song give you hope of a new spring"

"As you chose to pass his way?"

 

 He waved His hand across the sky

Causing the most magnificent rainbow to appear.

"Isn't that like the rainbow you saw"

"That reminded you of my promise to always be near."

 

 Three angels came before Him

All familiar faces I'd seen before.

The youngest was the child that sang "Jesus Loves Me"

As I walked through the courtyard to my door.

 

 The second was the beggar

I'd given some spare change to that day.

I remember him well because I thought it strange

"May God bless you" was all he had to say.

 

 The third looked like my waitress from lunch

At a little café I found out of the way.

As I left her tip she smiled and said

"God and I want you to have a great day."

 

 God said "Did not those three angels"

"Bring you my personal message of love?"

"And didn't each of those encounters"

"Make your spirit take flight like a dove?"

 

 
"And this evening when you watched the sunset"

             "Didn't you marvel at the colors in the sky?"

"If I remember all that beauty"

"Brought a hint of a tear to your eye."

 

 "You see, my child, I created everything"

             "And I’m in everything all around."

"It’s up to you to look and listen"

             "For the message to be found."

 

 "You say you've been waiting for my voice"

"To see what I had to say."

"My child, you just haven't been listening"

"For I've been talking to you all day."
